PET EMERGENCIES & REFERRALS FOR AFTER-HOURS EMERGENCY VET CARE
We understand that pet emergencies can occur anytime: days, nights, weekends, and holidays. During normally staffed operating hours, we make every attempt to prioritize urgent or emergency cases as warranted. Malta Animal Hospital is not an emergency facility, but during our normal operating hours we have the ability to treat most illnesses, injuries, or conditions. Please note that additional fees may apply in these situations.
However, depending on the time of day, our caseload, or the degree of specialized treatment your pet may require, it may be necessary to refer emergency patients to local 24-hour emergency or specialty hospitals during our open hours. This is done in the patient’s best interest, as these facilities are often better equipped to meet your pet’s needs quickly and appropriately.
If you are having an emergency with your pet, you must call our main number at (518) 885-2550 prior to coming in. This allows us to triage the situation and direct you to the facility that is most appropriate.
Urgent cases are triaged and handled according to their severity—those with more urgent concerns will be handled first. Please understand that urgent care situations occasionally require us to reschedule or reassign previously scheduled appointments.
AFTER-HOURS VETERINARY EMERGENCIES
A Malta Animal Hospital veterinarian or technician carries a pager for those brief after-hours consults, to answer a question, or even to decide whether a trip to the emergency clinic is warranted.
